ABC Will Allow Embedding Shows in Blogs
Thursday, May 22nd, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
This fall, ABC will allow viewers to embed some shows inside their blogs or social networking sites, according to the New York Times on Friday.
ABC announced on Thursday that its new video player will include content sharing tools and will be beta tested this summer.
Observers believe that, while ABC has typically held content closely, this move will serve to make its content more ubiquitous, and hence create greater demand for its shows.
Previous research in the music industry has shown that the more music people listen to, the more music they buy, and ABC may be keying on that effect.
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that in April 2008, viewers spent an average of 57 minutes on ABC.com watching TV shows.
ABC.com has been supplying a browser plug-in that supports Safari and near HD quality for its online TV shows since July, 2007.
