AT&T CEO: 40% of iPhone Inquiries Not Customers

AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson claims that 40 percent of the inquiries his company gets about the soon to be released iPhone are from people that arent already AT&T customers. Mr. Stephenson revealed the information during a speech at the NXTcomm communications conference in Chicago on Tuesday, according to Reuters.
"I really believe this is going to be a game changer," he said. "Not only for us but the industry at large."
Competition between cell phone service providers is fierce, and the companies are always looking for ways to draw away customers from each other. If the interest in Apples combination iPod and smartphone maintains its momentum after the product ships on June 29, AT&T may have found exactly what it needs to entice new customers.
Consumers interested in purchasing an iPhone can go to an Apple or AT&T store, but AT&T is the exclusive service provider for the phone. With more than a million people already signed up for additional iPhone information, that could translate into new found revenue for AT&T, and lost customers for the other cell carriers.
