AT&T EDGE Outage Impacting Customers Across US
Thursday, January 31st, 2008 at 3:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
AT&Ts EDGE wireless data network went offline in many areas across the United States on Thursday, and many customers hoping for a fix by Friday morning were disappointed to find the network was still offline. AT&T support confirmed that the outage is not Apple-related and includes more than its iPhone customers.
While the EGDGE outages are intermittent in some regions, others appear to be consistently without coverage. The Denver area, for example, had regained EDGE coverage by 5AM mountain time.
Apple forum posters noted EDGE outages from coast to coast on Thursday. AT&T reported that all states except for New Jersey, Maryland, West Virginia, Virgina, and North Dakota may be experiencing outages, but couldnt offer a time frame for fully resorted service.
Since the outage is an AT&T network issue and not related to the iPhone specifically, trying a different AT&T-compatible phone will still leave users without EDGE access. Once EDGE coverage is restored, however, iPhones may not see the network until restarted.
