    • Goldfrapp
    • On their latest CD, Supernature, Goldfrapp has put together a successful mix of 1980-era New Romanticism, German cabaret, and T. Rex glam that leaves you riveted even through the album's lulls. It's a great amalgam that sounds current without sounding at all dated.

Ambrosia Announces WireTap Studio Audio Recording and Editing Package

ONTARIO, CA -- Ambrosia Software Inc. announced the release of WireTap Studio, an upgrade to their WireTap Pro audio recording and editing package, at the Podcast and New Media Expo. Evan Smith, Sultan of Service, gave us a demonstration and highlighted some of the new features of this package.

WireTap Studio can record the audio input of any program on your Mac, as well as from a microphone or line in. You can record from multiple channels, as was demonstrated when we recorded from two mics, one FireWire and one USB, simultaneously. You can record in many different formats, such as MP3, AAC, AIFC, AIFF, Apple Lossless and WAV formats. You can specify the exact parameters for each format, or go with presets such as low, medium and high quality.

One very nifty feature is called LivePreview, and allows you to hear what a particular format and quality setting sounds like in real time, not after you have recorded, like some other programs. This is great so you won’t waste time with a format that results in too large a file, or too low quality. Plus, WireTap Studio offers true lossless recording, meaning that the full quality audio is always available should you need to produce a new format or quality file. There’s also an auto split feature, which can create individual audio files based on criteria such as amount of time, length of silence, and more.

WireTap Studio will be available next week. The product has not yet been added to the company’s Web site.
