    • This quasi-concept album (the only of its kind) from these Vermonters finally showcased their ability to convey a message with a studio album, whereas previously they only succeeded in doing so live.

Analyst Confirms Wal-mart to Sell iPhones

Retail giant Walmart will be selling Apple’s popular iPhone 3G handset over the holiday season and will begin selling units on December 28th, as confirmed by analyst Jamie Townsend of research firm JRPG.

In a telephone interview, Mr. Townsend told iPodObserver.com that JPRG has good reason to believe that Apple will begin moving the iPhone 3G through Walmart as a distribution channel before the end of the year.

Though some observers may find it odd that Walmart wouldn’t sell the handset prior to Christmas shopping season, Mr. Townsend says there may be a reason.

The analyst then went on to illustrate the advantage this could provide to Apple and AT&T alike, as the iPhone 3G may be at the upper limit of the average Walmart customer’s budget but a precedent still remain for this level of spending.

Mr. Townsend also posited that this holiday season should see ample discounts in the smartphone market which could apply to the iPhone 3G or the calling plans AT&T may offer, but stated that nothing was official yet.

The handsets will apparently be activated in-store and final pricing details have yet to be released.

Boy Genius Report broke the story earlier on Wednesday that Walmart would be selling the handset, but Mr. Townsend’s comments are the first official confirmation of the story.
