App Store Could Launch on July 10
Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
The App Store, Apples distribution system for third-party iPhone and iPod touch applications, is scheduled to launch on July 11, but some reports are speculating it will open a day early on July 10. The early launch would accommodate New Zealands 12:01AM iPhone 3G rollout, which is several hours ahead of the United Kingdom and the United States.
According to Macworld UK, the App Store launch would also likely coincide with an early iTunes 7.7 release, and possibly iPhone Software 2.0, both of which will be required to take advantage to the App Store.
Music industry analysis firm MusicAlly claimed its sources confirmed the early App Store launch. "It makes sense though, given that the new iPhone is going on sale in New Zealand at 12:01AM local time on Friday -- which is 1PM GMT tomorrow," analysts said.
If true, current iPhone owners will get a taste of Apples new software update and the App Store a few hours before the iPhone 3G hits the streets.
