Apple Acknowledges Problems with iTunes 5 in Windows
Wednesday, September 14th, 2005 at 4:00 PM - by Bryan Chaffin
Apple Computer acknowledged Thursday that there are some issues with iTunes 5 in Windows, according to report at CNet News. Problems are centered around installing iTunes on a Windows PC, with some users reporting crashes during the installation process, while others report problems after installation.
"Apple is aware that a limited number of customers are experiencing issues with installing iTunes 5," Apple said in a statement. "Were working to resolve this and expect to have a software update early next week."
As noted by CNet News, many complaints have poured into Apples iPod support forum for Windows. One solution involving antivirus software conflicts was posted by an Apple moderator:
Please look to see if you have the following driver installed on your system:
C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\drivers\\css-dvp.sys
There appears to be an interaction between iTunes and some anti-virus software that uses this driver that may cause iTunes or the iTunes installer to crash your computer. The developer of the driver has released a virus definition file update that should resolve the crash.
Please note this fix may take 24 - 48 hours to propagate through the system, and for all the vendors that ship this driver to have the update.
Check to see if you have that driver and if so, please contact your anti-virus software vendor and get the latest virus definition file. They may not yet have the update available, but should have it very soon.
