Apple Expands iPhone Sales to Authorized Business Agents
Monday, August 13th, 2007 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Prospective iPhone buyers arent limited to the Apple Store and AT&T stores any longer. Apples combination iPod and smart phone can now also be purchased through consultants and other VAR providers that participate in the Apple Authorized Business Agent (AABA) program.
Jarrod Skeggs, vice president of sales and marketing at AABA member Digital Design Solutions, commented "This is a great new development for Apple Authorized Business Agents and likely means Apple is actually ramping up production rather than slowing it down."
Apple may be testing the waters with AABA members before rolling out a more wide-spread iPhone sales program. Should the company see the results it wants from its Business Agent stores, it could expand sales to include other channels like online and catalog-based authorized resellers.
The iPhone was initially available only through Apple and AT&T retail locations and company Web sites. Although some might consider that to be a limited availability market since the iPhone was not offered at other major retailers, Apple has been pleased with sales so far.
Apple sold about 270,000 iPhones during the first day and a half that it was available. The company expects to sell one million units by the end of its September quarter.
