Apple Files Audio Feedback Patent
Wednesday, December 6th, 2006 at 2:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
The U.S. patent and trademark Office published a patent application on Thursday from Apple Computer for an audio feedback system for handheld devices. The patent titled Techniques for presenting sound effects on a portable media player describes using sounds as a form of feedback so users have an alternative to looking at their portable media player display.
The application states "the lack of auditory feedback degrades the user experience and renders the media player less user friendly. Thus, there is a need for improved techniques to facilitate auditory feedback on portable media players."
It describes scenarios where audio feedback is played alone, with other feedback sounds, and also with media like song tracks. The sounds are played in such a way that they are recognizable, even when other sounds are also being played.
Thanks to MacNN for the heads up.
