Apple Issues First Paid ‘Podcast Novel’
Monday, February 20th, 2006 at 2:00 PM - by Brad Cook
Scott Sigler's novel Earthcore, which was previously available as a free weekly podcast that garnered 10,000 subscribers, has now been issued by Apple's iTunes Music Store for US$9.99 for the entire 20-episode run. According to Vnunet.com, the audio book was published by an indie music label that saw it as an opportunity to expand into a new market.
Conquer the World Records owner Mike Warden said: "I started listening to the book and I couldn't put my ears down, so to speak. I enjoyed the science and the suspense of the story, but Scott puts so much passion in the way he vocalized the characters of his own book. He's like a punk rock author; he just did everything himself."
