Apple Movie Rentals May Include Fox, Warner, More
Wednesday, January 9th, 2008 at 3:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apples rumored movie rental service could become reality during Macworld Expo 2008 and may include films from Warner Bros. The rumors originally claimed that only 20th Century Fox was on board, but in addition to Warner, the list has now grown to include Walt Disney, Paramount, and Lions Gate Entertainment, according to Bloomberg.
Unnamed sources claim that Apple will announce iTunes Store movie rentals on January 15 -- presumably the news will come from CEO Steve Jobs during his Macworld Expo keynote presentation. The sources also claim that a 24 hour movie rental will cost US$3.99 per film.
While some may see the alleged rental price as too high and a potential bar to wide spread consumer acceptance, others see the overall rental program as a positive for Apple.
Matthew Kelmon, president of Kelmoore Investment Co., commented "Its a great strategy. Content is king. Its the only thing missing."
