Apple Picks Up Home Made iPod Ad

Fan made ads aren’t always limited just to YouTube, or at least that’s what Nick Haley found out. His amateur iPod touch commercial caught the eye of Apple, and now TBWA/Chiat/Day is planning to rework the ad into an actual commercial, according to The New York Times.

Nick Haley’s iPod touch ad.

18 year old Mr. Haley spun together his home made commercial in a day and set it to Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex by CSS, and then posted his work on YouTube. He later received an email from Apple representatives that wanted to discuss his ad, which led to a flight from his home in England to Los Angeles to work with Apple’s advertising agency on a broadcast-ready version.

TBWA/Chiat/Day is honoring the original work that Mr. Haley created, and has essentially recreated the ad as he envisioned it. Instead of using his lower resolution footage, however, the agency re-shot the ad in high definition and cleaned up some of the edits.

Lee Clow, chairman and chief creative officer at TBWA Worldwide, commented "we didn’t mess with his content... it has a charm to it, a youthful fun."

Mr. Haley added "My input was totally respected."

Mr. Haley’s professional iPod touch commercial will begin airing on Sunday, October 28, but you can still see the original version on YouTube.
