Apple Rolls out iPhone SDK Beta 8
Thursday, June 26th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apple dropped a new beta of its iPhone SDK, or software developer kit, on developers Thursday evening. iPhone SDK beta 8 includes updated versions of the developer tools and also requires a pre-release version of iTunes 7.7, presumably the next step in working towards what Apple hopes will be a smooth App Store launch on July 11.
The iPhone SDK is the application development environment that lets coders write authorized apps for Apples iPhone and iPod touch. Developers will be able to distribute their software through Apples App Store which will support wireless downloads directly to the handheld.
App designers interested in coding for the iPhone and iPod touch can join Apples developer program for free. Distributing software through the App Store requires a US$99 fee. Additional information is available at the Apple Developer Web site.
