Apple Sells 100 Million iPods
Sunday, April 8th, 2007 at 3:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apple announced on Monday that it hit a milestone mark with the sale of its 100 millionth iPod media player. The iPod was launched a little over five years ago, and at that time many technology pundits predicted that it would fail.

Contrary to the expert's predictions, the iPod has survived and flourished. It originally started as a 5GB mechanical scroll wheel device with a monochrome display, and has evolved into an 80GB solid state Click Wheel player with a color display and video playback support. Apple also introduced smaller versions of its popular player, including the iPod mini, two generations of the iPod nano, and two generations of the iPod shuffle.
"At this historic milestone, we want to thank music lovers everywhere for making iPod such an incredible success," said Apple CEO Steve Jobs. "iPod has helped millions of people around the world rekindle their passion for music, and we're thrilled to be a part of that."
The next addition to the iPod family, the iPhone, is scheduled to be released in June.
