Apple Ships Mystery Boxes to Australia

Apple resellers in Australia have been receiving mysterious care packages from the mother ship that are clearly marked as protected by nondisclosure agreement terms, and can’t be opened until June 10, according to MacTalk. The date coincides with the first day of Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference, which will still be June 9 in the United States, leading to speculation that the rumored second generation iPhone is packed inside the boxes.

Analysts have been predicting Apple will introduce a new iPhone model with support for 3G wireless data communication during Steve Jobs’s WWDC keynote presentation on June 9.

So far, iPhone deals have been signed with cell carriers in about 70 markets around the world. While the announcements from the carriers have been terse, they all state that the iPhone will be available in their markets before the end of 2008.

While it’s not certain that Australia’s mystery boxes contain new iPhones, the timing seems more than coincidental, adding more fuel to the new iPhone launch rumors.
