In a Q&A session after the Apple iPhone Roadmap event on Thursday, Steve Jobs was asked about VOIP applications. Apple will allow them on the W-Fi network. Mr. Jobs and Mr. Schiller answered other questions as well.

"We’ll limit them [VOIP apps] over the cellular network but WiFi will be fine," Mr. Jobs said.

Mr. Jobs and Phil Schiller answered other questions.

1. Asked if RIM should be worried, Mr. Jobs said, "You should go ask them. We’re not sending them a message, we’re sending customers a message."

2. The question of security for iPhone apps came up. "It’s a dangerous world out there! ... We want to take reliability of the iPod but the ability to run third party apps from the PC world without malicious applications."

3. One developer asked "What of a developer doesn’t want to work through Apple?" Mr. Jobs said they won’t be able to develop for the iPhone.

4. ars technica asked about corporate deployment. Mr. Schiller responded,"We are working on a version of the AppStore for enterprise that will allow corporations to distribute apps to their end-users securely."

Mr. Jobs was vague about the relationships with their carrier partners and didn’t disclose any financial details. But the gist of the arrangement came through when Mr. Jobs commented: "We struck a new kind of relationship with our carriers where Apple is responsible for the software on the phone. Really, this is our program and we’re running it."
