Apple to Also Hold Oct. 12 Event in London

In addition to its media event in San Jose, Apple will also hold an event in London on Oct. 12, according to a BBC 6 Music news report that has since been removed from the BBC site.

According to items on the iLounge and MacDailyNews Web sites, BBC 6 Music reported: "Apple is set to unveil a new video iPod at the BBC Television Centre in London on October the 12th. The company is expected to reveal details of the new MP3 and video player as well as video bundles to be available from the company's iTunes stores."

Both a comment poster on iLounge and the MacDailyNews report direct readers to click the "Listen to the latest music news" link on the BBC 6 Music Web site to hear the news, but iPod Observer has confirmed that the current streaming audio file there no longer has the information. It's unclear if the mention is gone because BBC 6 Music rotates its news on a regular basis or because Apple complained.

In any event, it seems obvious that any new product unveiled on Oct. 12 will be shown at the San Jose event, with the London event perhaps patched in via satellite to add more information. For example, if a video iPod is introduced, the London event could have BBC representatives showing off content that's ready for download and viewing on the new device.

Another anonymous poster on iLounge, who seems to work for the BBC, confirmed: "Apple have booked some space in the BBC's Television Centre in White City for Wednesday 12th. This news was being emailed all around the BBC today.

"No one knows for sure what is going on (or at least none of us worker-bees!) but we suspect it's something to do with the BBC Internet Media Player. As the content is being made publicly available like this, it's not too much of a stretch to imagine it been included in the next video enabled version of iTunes.

"Apple getting a huge media company involved in their announcement? Has to be something to do with a video device surely?"

iPod Observer will update this article with more information as it becomes available.
