Apple’s App Store: Open for Business
Wednesday, July 9th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apples App Store, the iTunes Store-like distribution system for iPhone and iPod touch applications opened its digital doors for business Thursday morning. The App Store is already offering over 500 applications, over 125 of which are free.
A long list of companies will be offering software through the App Store, and while many applications will be free, others generally range in price from US$0.99 to around $20. Users need to install iTunes 7.7 before they can access the App Store.

A wide range of games, productivity, finance, business, news, reference, social networking and other applications are already available.
App Store applications require iPhone or iPod touch Software 2.0. The upgrade is free for iPhone users, or $9.99 for iPod touch users. It will be pre-installed on iPhone 3G which is due to go on sale on July 11.
If the App Store icon doesnt appear in iTunes 7.7, try visiting the iTunes Store and searching for "app store." Alternately, go to iTunes > Preferences > General and check Applications in the Show section.
Interest in the App Store is already high, and will likely help drive the popularity of the iPhone and iPod touch even higher.
