Australia Joins the iTunes Music Store, Sony BMG Missing

The iTunes Music Store (iTMS) in Australia officially opened on Tuesday. Songs are priced at A$1.69, videos at $3.39, and albums at $16.99. Sony BMG, however, is sitting this one out for now. Apple and Sony BMG are still in negotiations, and a deal is imminent, according to the Syndey Morning Herald.
Sony is the only major label that failed to sign on for the iTunes Music Store in Australia.
Sony BMG Entertainment Australia's general manager of business strategy, Emmanuel Candi, commented "There's a couple of points left to finalize, the negotiations are going really well and we hope that they will be all settled soon and we'll be on track too."
Sony BMG, along with Warner Music previously failed to sign deals with Apple for the iTMS in Japan.
Working out the details in Australia will be good for both Apple and Sony BMG. Apple will gain access to Sony's massive music library, and Sony will see new revenue on songs, potentially making up for lost revenue from declining CD sales.
