Best Buy Offering Free Blu-ray Players with Rebate

A Sharp Blu-ray player is now being offered free with the purchase of qualifying Sharp HDTVs. The move may be a partial response to the bundling of free HD DVD players with some HDTVs.
The offer is being made online by Best Buy.
Recently, Toshiba slashed prices on their HD DVD players in the wake of the Warner announcement prior to CES, but that move may have been simply to clear out inventory. In addition, some retailers are throwing in free HD DVD players with HDTVs to entice customers.
This offer by Sharp may be designed to offset those tactics and help Blu-ray retain its momentum. Right now, no move by Toshiba is going unchecked as the Blu-ray camp attempts to close out the war quickly. That strategy also has included special "The future is Blu" ads run during the recent NFL playoff games.
