An Evening with George Shearing & Mel Torm

- Of the three men who taught me how to sing, the last was Mel Torme. Apparently, Mel Torme is a joke to anyone more than a decade older than me, a living parody of a Vegas crooner. But I stumbled on th

Blu-ray Players Fail to Hold 9:1 Lead, Still Doing Well

In the third week after the Warner announcement for Blu-ray, NPD reported that the sales of Blu-ray players were back to previous levels, about 2:1 compared to HD DVD players, according to engadgetHD on Tuesday.
In the new epoch, weeks are counted from the date of the Warner announcement. Many were wondering if, in week #3, Blu-ray sales would hold their staggering 9:1 sales ratio over HD DVD. They did not, and in week #3, sales of players were 66 percent Blu-ray and 34 percent HD DVD.
These are retail sales, and sales from online stores like Amazon were not counted. Neither were the sales of Sony PS3s tallied -- which include a Blu-ray player.
"Regardless, the better metric for the success of a packaged media format is media sales and with two weeks at about 84 percent and almost no decent red titles in sight, wed be surprised if Blu victory in that court didnt continue," Ben Drawbaugh wrote.
