CEA: 50% of U.S. Households Will Have HDTV by Year’s End

A new study by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) said that half of U.S. households will have an HDTV by the end of 2008. In addition, the HDTV has the highest growth potential of any household electronics device.
The report, summarized by TWICE, also had some other consumer electronics tidbits. First, the proliferation of electronics devices is dwindling slightly as more multi-function devices appear. Next, while men tend to be bigger purchasers of electronics devices, which is not unexpected, women arent far behind. Notably, women are far less likely than men to consider the device "theirs personally."
Finally, the report noted continued growth in flat panel displays, PCs and video game systems. The industry is on pace to exceed last years revenue of US$161B in shipment revenues.
The 10th annual study was conducted between January 31 and February 4, 2008.
iPO notes that previous studies have shown that not every household with an HDTV actually has HDTV service via cable or satellite. A considerable fraction of those HDTVs are used with SD broadcasts and also used for video games, DVD, HD DVD, Blu-ray and other SD/HD video device viewing.
