Cingular Wants to Partner with Apple for Mobile Downloads
Sunday, September 25th, 2005 at 3:00 PM - by Bryan Chaffin
Cingular is planning on launching its own music download service for cell phones early next year, and Ralph de la Vega, chief operating officer at Cingular, said that his company would like to partner with Apple in developing the service. The comments came at the Goldman Sachs investor conference in New York last week, and were reported by Reuters.
Cingular was the first carrier to offer the new iTunes ROKR phone from Motorola, the phone that allows users to play downloads from Apple's iTunes Music Store. There is as yet no word from Apple on whether the company was planning a service in conjunction with Cingular or other carriers for mobile downloads.
Mr. de la Vega was also asked about sales of the ROKR, which may not have been moving that well so far. At the conference, he said "it takes a little while to build" sales momentum for such a device.
There are additional details regarding other Cingular business plans in the Reuters article.
