Coldplay Ups Apple Quotient with Solar iPod Charger

iPod-wielding Coldplay fans can exercise both loves with a new Coldplay-branded Solio, the solar-powered iPod charger that was introduced at Macworld San Francisco 2005 (see TMO's Solio review for more product information). As The Unofficial Apple Weblog noted with the site broke he Coldplay story, the band has a history with Apple that includes releasing many songs exclusively on the iTunes Music Store to the band's singer naming the child he had with Gwyneth Paltrow Apple.

The Coldplay-branded Solio is being limited to 200 units, and is available exclusively through the band's Web site. It features imagery from the band's latest album, X & Y (iTMS link).

From the band's Web site:

"Another very special product only available here on the Coldplay Shop - an X & Y branded Solio solar powered iPod charger... Only 200 of these fantastic items are available and there will be no more once they have gone so make sure you place your pre-order fast!"

You can find the units at Coldplay's Web site, though they may well be sold out by the time you read this. TMO interviewed Solio creator Christopher Hornor at Macworld San Francisco about the idea of eco-friendly products.
