Dell: Ready to Take On iPhone, Someday
Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Dell CEO Michael Dell says his company is can compete with Apples iPhone, but that there arent any plans to jump into the fray any time soon. He did, however, hint that his PC making company is working on small form-factor devices, according to Reuters.
Mr. Dell made his remarks at the Citi Technology Conference in New York. When asked about competing with the iPhone, he commented "Youll see us with smaller and smaller devices that have capabilities of the devices you are referring to. Not in the near-term."
Dell has tried its hand at small form factor devices before with little luck. Taking on Apples combination iPod and smartphone could be an act in futility for the company -- unless it can figure out how to design an iPhone better than Apple does.
