Disney Sells 500,000 Movies on iTunes
Thursday, November 9th, 2006 at 2:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Disney announced during its quarterly earnings report on Thursday that it has already sold about half a million movies through the iTunes Store. According to Forbes, Disney is looking to run with that success and is within weeks of announcing digital content deals with cable companies.
A week after Apple launched its feature length movie offerings at the iTunes Store, Disney's CEO Bob Iger reported that 125,000 movies had already been sold. He commented "We believe that this is just the beginning and we are extremely confident that we will easily be able to generate about $50 million of incremental revenue in the first year of putting movies on this platform."
So far, Disney is the only company offering feature length films through the iTunes Store. Disney's exclusivity, however, may soon change. News Corp. revealed earlier this week that it is negotiating with Apple to add the Fox Movie library to the iTunes Store.
