Elgato Systems Eyes Apple TV

Elgato Systems has released EyeTV 2.4, a free update to its Eye TV software. The new version supports a "one click" export of videos for the Apple TV.

Version 2.4 has additional features added:

  • In the USA, users with cable or satellite set top boxes will be pleased to know that they can now view data supplied by TitanTV directly in EyeTV's Program Guide.
  • Added support of third-party infrared hardware ("IR Blasters") to switch channels on a set top box using EyeTV.
  • New visual aid in the scheduled recording timeline.
  • Added support for Apple's Spotlight.
  • Ability to specify which of multiple monitors has the Full Screen Menu.

"EyeTV 2 enables users to watch live TV broadcasts on a Mac and record them onto the Mac's hard disc; edit the recordings in an integrated Editor; export the recordings to iPod, Apple TV, DVD and iApps; and burn the recordings to DVD. The software offers an integrated Program Guide (TitanTV US only) with full-text search, as well as a Full Screen menu for a comfortable control option (Apple Remote or EyeTV Remote) for TV viewing from the sofa.

"EyeTV supports technologies such as Dolby Surround, high-definition television (HDTV) and progressive scan. A Universal Binary application, EyeTV 2.4 supports older Macs with PowerPC processors and new models with the Intel chip set," the announcement said.

EyeTV 2.4 is a Universal Application and requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later. It is priced at 79.00.
