GUBA Sells, Rents Warner Bros. Movies, TV Shows

GUBA on Monday announced that it is now selling and renting feature films and TV shows from Warner Bros., including The Matrix, Batman Forever, and Syriana, as well as Babylon 5, The Dukes of Hazzard, and The Flintstones. TV shows sell for US$1.79 per episode.

Older movies sell for $9.99 while new movies released through GUBA on the same date as the DVD will sell for $19.99. One-day rentals are $2.99. While the rest of GUBA's content can be played back on an iPod or on a Windows or Mac computer, the digital rights management used in the Warner Bros. movies and TV shows limits playback to devices compatible with Windows Media Player 9, as well as Windows 2000 or XP PCs.

While Apple currently sells many short films and TV shows for $1.99 each -- with discounts available for full seasons of some series -- the company has yet to make feature films available, except for the Disney Channel original High School Musical, which sells for $9.99. The company is said to be negotiating with Hollywood studios to bring movies to the iTMS by the end of 2006, but its insistence on a flat $9.99 price for films new and old has apparently been a sticking point.
