G Day: iPhone 3G Hits France on July 17
Wednesday, June 25th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
iPhone customers in France will have to wait a week longer than their U.S. counterparts to get ahold of the new iPhone 3G since Orange will be launching the combination iPod and smartphone on July 17 instead of July 11. The cell service provider will offer special upgrade pricing for current iPhone owners, and discounts for users that select qualifying contracts.
Orange plans to sell the 8GB iPhone 3G for €149 and the 16GB model for €199 with its Origami Star, First, and Jet plans. The phones will cost €199 and €249 respectively for all other plans except for time-cutoff and pay-as-you-go contracts.
Apple introduced the iPhone 3G on June 9 at its annual World Wide Developer Conference for Mac and iPhone application coders. The second generation iPhone will offer 3G wireless data connectivity, a built-in GPS, and iPhone Software 2.0 with access to the App Store and third-party application downloads. The software update will also be available for current iPhone owners free of charge.
The iPhone was set to launch in 22 countries on July 11, but now it looks like that number will be closer to 20.
