Giopod Offers iPod Trade-In Program
Sunday, May 7th, 2006 at 4:00 PM - by Bryan Chaffin
iPod owners looking to upgrade their models have yet another outlet for doing so via a site called Giopod. Giopod offers a trade-in program good towards the purchase of a newer (or different) iPod, an Apple HiFi unit, or just plain cash back.
Giopod features a value calculator on its home page whereby users can get an "instant quote" based on model, condition, and the accessories you have to include. Owners can then send their iPod to the site, which confirms the aforementioned conditions and fulfills your order.
Trade-in values are about what one would expect through such a service, and thus not as high as you might get by selling your own iPod directly. Giopods service might therefore appeal more to people looking for a fast, easy upgrade path.
Plugging in a 40GB Clickwheel iPod in "excellent" condition (with original packaging, earbuds, dock, and FireWire cable), we got a quote of US$123 in credit. For a 4GB nano in "very good" condition (original packaging, earbuds and USB cable), we were given a quote of $142.
Lastly, we also had difficulty getting a quote from one model number, as the number reported by the test iPod differed from Giopods database.
Note that iPodObserver.com is not endorsing Giopod, nor have we used the service.
