    • Beck
    • Beck is the modern master of the groove, and Guero is merely the latest example of this. From the opening power chords of "E-Pro," to the Pac-Man cuteness of "Girl," to the dirge-like lullab

    • It's an album about a breakup, done with beats instead of mopey lyrics. But the beats are raw, and the emotions are there, even if there aren't many words on top of it. While possibly not Scott Herren

HP CEO: "Doubtful" HP Could "Lead" With iPod

Hewlett Packard's new CEO, Mark Hurd, abandoned his company's attempts to sell their own branded iPod products because he was unsure if HP could be an industry leader in portable media devices, he has told Business Week magazine.

Asked why HP decided to stop selling Apple's iPod back on July 29, he said, "There are a lot of bets we can make, but we want to make those bets in markets that are exciting, have growth, are worth dominating - make that "leading," the lawyers don't like "dominating" - and in which, by the way, we can lead.

"So think about putting our logo on the iPod. Is the market worth leading? Maybe it is," he said. "But can we lead it, with no or very little technology differentiation? Doubtful. You have to go into places where you can lead."

Former HP CEO Carly Fiorina joined forces with Apple CEO Steve Jobs to unveil HP's plans to sell the iPod during the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show in January 2004. It was originally going to be blue, but when it shipped in August 2004, the HP iPod was virtually indistinguishable from the Apple iPod, aside from the HP logo on the back. HP later added the iPod mini and began selling the iPod shuffle this summer.
