Hackers Unbricking Upgraded iPhones
Sunday, September 30th, 2007 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Procedures for reverting an unlocked iPhone back to firmware version 1.0.2 began appearing over the weekend, restoring life to iPhones that stopped working after the 1.1.1 update. Those first steps revived many phones but left them unable to make phone calls. Now it appears that phone functionality has been restored, as well, according to Gizmodo.
The hard working coders at iPhone Dev Team appear to be well on the way to releasing a new version of their unlocking software that is compatible with the 1.1.1 firmware update.
The iPhone Sim Free people originally claimed that their paid unlock would work even after a firmware update, but that turned out not to be the case. Now the company is telling customers that downgrading to firmware version 1.0.2 will give them back a working phone.
Even though there appears to be some sort of light at the end of the bricked iPhone tunnel, the advice from the hacking community isnt changing yet: If you have hacked your iPhone, and dont want to risk losing any functionality, dont install the 1.1.1 firmware update.
