    • "Black Milk" knocks me off my feet in this collection of moody and eclectic songs. Massive Attack uses samples and keyboards in a very unique way, but not all the songs pack the same punch.

    • This timeless masterpiece is little known, but it has inspired almost as many bands as The Modern Lovers' own inspiration -- and only slightly better known -- The Velvet Underground & Nico.

Halloween On the Go

Halloween is the time of year when we get to dress in costumes, eat someone else’s candy, and break out our haunted decorations for trick-or-treaters. I’ve mentioned before ways to spook up your Mac, but this year it’s time to bring Apple’s iPhone in on the fun.

There are several free and paid apps for the holiday at Apple’s App Store which means you’ll have more money for your costume or candy needs. Here are some you can try out:

HorrorScope Because everyone should know what their future holds on Halloween.

Jack O’Lantern Carve your own pumpkin without the goopy mess.

AdLibs Lite: Halloween Edition Just like traditional MadLibs, these let you make your own story, but with a Halloween theme.

Halloween WordSearch Find the hidden Halloween words in this search puzzle. Look for classics like spider, demon, deceased and decaying.

Crazy Pumpkin Mix and match jack-o-lantern eyes, noses and mouths to make your own Halloween face complete with flickering light. Shake your iPhone or iPod touch to change the glow color, and play Halloween sounds, too.

Since all of these apps are available through the iTunes-based App Store, you can download them to your handheld even if you are away from your computer -- and since they are all free, they won’t break your bank. There are several more Halloween-themed apps available. Just search for Halloween at the App Store to find them.

Happy haunting!
