Hearst TV Enters Agreement with YouTube

Hearst-Argyle, the largest TV affiliate of Walt Disney Company, has entered an agreement with YouTube to distribute news, weather, and entertainment for undisclosed revenue, according to the Wall Street Journal on Monday. [Subscription required.]
This is the first time a TV station will get paid when viewers watch content on a video sharing site. Hearst will receive an undisclosed part of the revenue from advertising placed on YouTube.
Hearst-Argyle owns 26 TV stations and reaches about 18 percent of U.S. homes. The Disney-owned company has also been one of the most aggressive in its online presence.
Starting Monday, five of the largest Hearst-Argyle stations will post their content on YouTube. Terry Mackin, Hearst-Argyles executive vice president, said other stations will follow.
The announcement came just days after Steve Jobs announced that Apple would supply a software upgrade in a few weeks for the Apple TV to allow the viewing of YouTube content.
