Icuiti Debuts Video Eyewear For iPods, Other Devices

Icuiti Corp. on Wednesday started shipping its DV920 Video Eyewear glasses, which give the illusion of viewing a 42-inch screen from 11 feet away. Icuiti emphasized their use with Apple's new video iPod but noted that they also work with a laptop or desktop computer as well as other portable devices. The company will have them on display during this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Priced at US$549, the DV920 features a pair of LCD panels capable of 640 x 480 resolution, with a 26-degree field of view and 15 degrees of vertical tilt. The right and left panels can focus independently. The glasses run on a pair of AA batteries that provide 2.5 to 4.5 hours of use, according to Icuiti. They can also run on an optional USB power adapter or on the included DC power adapter.

The DV920 also includes integrated, removable headphones and weighs 3.5 ounces with them. The controller, which handles brightness, volume, 3D settings and power to the glasses, weighs 3.8 ounces with its batteries installed. Composite video, RCA and VGA cables are included; an optional S-Video cable is also available.
