Merrill Lynch Gives iPod Estimates a Slight Bump
Thursday, February 9th, 2006 at 2:00 PM - by Brad Cook
Merrill Lynch analyst Richard Farmer has increased his estimate of iPod sales for the current quarter from 9.8 million to 10.1 million, with his fiscal 2006 projection now at 53.2 million units, up 900,000 from his previous number. MacNN quoted him as saying: "The new 1GB iPod nano makes Apple's lower-end offerings more competitive with numerous Asian players."
Farmer also said that the transition to Intel processors, as well as the impending launch of Windows Vista, "could hold back Mac annual growth," according to the Web site. However, he expects the iPod's "halo effect to "more than offset these issues, creating upside to our model."
