Microsoft, MTV to Launch Digital Music Service
Monday, December 12th, 2005 at 2:00 PM - by Brad Cook
Microsoft and MTV Networks on Tuesday said that next year they will launch a digital music service called Urge. The pact was covered by MarketWatch's Michael Paige, who noted that financial terms of the partnership weren't disclosed.
Urge will offer more than two million songs and will be included in the next version of Microsoft's Windows Media Player, which will enable consumers to play music as well as videos. The companies also expect to offer exclusive MTV programming.
It wasn't clear if the service will be subscription- or download-only, or some combination of the two. Further details will be unveiled next month at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
