Mobistar: iPhone 3G Demand Outpacing Supply
Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
Apples iPhone 3G partner in Brussels, Mobistar, has already sold 400,000 units and has found that demand for the combination iPod and smartphone is outpacing the available supply. Despite limited inventory, the cell carrier expects to sell several thousand more units over the next few weeks, according to Forbes.
Despite the fact that Mobistar sells the iPhone 3G unlocked so that it can be used on any of the countries three carriers, a substantial number of buyers are signing up for the companys most expensive service plan at €60 a month. Business customers are showing a strong interest in the handheld as well.
Other markets are experiencing iPhone 3G shortages, too. On Monday, the iPhone was all but missing in the United States, but supply constraints have been slowly easing as the week progresses.
Mobistar CEO Benoit Scheen is hoping Apple can overcome its supply issues and ship more units to Belgium soon. If the Cupertino-based company cant come through, his biggest obstacle to selling the iPhone 3G will be the lack of inventory.
