NAND Flash Prices Drop After Rumored iPod Nano Delay

On the heels of rumors that a new version of the iPod nano has been delayed, NAND flash prices dropped 10% this month. According to DigiTimes, NAND flash manufacturers Hynix Semiconductor and Samsung Electronics, which hold over 60% of the global market, are also pushing for a price war, which could drop prices further.
The news site also noted a Gartner Dataquest report stating that a 10GB or 12GB iPod nano will likely launch in the fourth quarter of 2006, shoring up prices amid a projected 5.8% shortage that should come out of the demand for the new device. In addition, SanDisk is said to have asked for a price reduction as a result of the market's current downturn.
