    • This record is perhaps U2's finest hour, yet it has been forgotten as a strange by-product of the ZooTV tour's overload, and is generally regarded by most fans as a poor effort. It is this sentiment t

New Emmy Category for iPod Content Announced

The next Sports Emmy awards ceremony will have a new category, best video for computers, cellphones, iPods, and other digital media devices, according to a report from the NY Times. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is expected to make the announcement on Tuesday, November 15th, 2005.

The Times reported that the category will make its first appearance at the Academy's Sports Emmy presentation, and that it will later be added as a category at other Emmy events.

The market for portable media is nascent, at best, but major studios are beginning to produce content for cell phones, such as 24: Conspiracy from Fox, and an upcoming cartoon from MTV Networks called Samurai Love God.

At the same time, of course, Pixar and Disney/ABC have both licensed video content to Apple's iTunes Music Store -- Pixar announced this week that 125,000 Pixar shorts had already been purchased through the iTunes Music Store -- though all of the content so far announced from both companies is not being produced for iTunes, but simply being made available through Apple's music store.

This makes such content ineligible for consideration in the new category, which is limited to content under 20 minutes that has not already been shown or broadcast for other mediums. The Times reported that potential submissions include video blogs, web programs, event coverage, mobile phone serials and other video-on-demand content.
