News Corp Exec Rattles Pricing Saber, but Said Fox TV Staying on iTunes

Peter Chernin, News Corp’s president and chief operating officer, said this week that his company would not be pulling its Fox TV programming from iTunes, even though his company was partnering with former iTunes content provider NBC on a rival service called Hulu. Mr. Chernin stressed, however, that it may be having a pricing beef with Apple, just like NBC, in the future.
"Right now we have a perfectly good relationship with Apple," Mr. Chernin told Reuters. "But let me say this, we’re the ones who should determine what the fair price for our product is, not Apple."
It was a dispute over pricing that led NBC to not renew its video content contract with Apple, which in turn led to Apple pulling NBC’s existing content from iTunes. NBC wants to be able to charge more for hit shows, while Apple has long held a line in the sand for uniform pricing of US$1.99 per show, similar to the $.99 per single policy that has angered music labels.
