Next Gen Zune… Still In Pink

Images of Microsoft’s Zune 2 and Zune Flash found their way out onto the Internet even though the Redmond-based company hasn’t officially announced the products. If the picture that appeared at Gizmodo is legit, it looks like Microsoft is readying a new assault on Apple’s iPod -- and now the iPod nano -- with pink.

Zune 2? Maybe.

The 80GB Zune 2 and the 4GB and 8GB flash-based Zune Flash looks to be available in black, red, or pink. The funky middle button is still there, but the form and shape seem to be different from the current Zune model. So far, no sign of a brown model.

If the images are real, and Microsoft chose to let them out into the wild on purpose, the timing is right. Apple is holding a special media event next week on Wednesday, September 5, where new iPod models are expected to be announced.

Should Apple launch new iPods, the current Zune model will appear even more lack-luster. The possibility of new Zunes, however, could give the impression that Microsoft is still in the game.
