O2 Expects 200K iPhones Sold by Year End

O2 is gearing up for the November 9 launch of the iPhone in the U.K., and is expecting to sell 200,000 units by the end of the year. O2 CEO Matthew Key stated that his company has already ordered "hundreds of thousands" of iPhones from Apple, according to the Financial Times.
Mr. Key’s 200,000 figure, however, seems conservative to some analysts. Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi thinks that U.K. customers may buy somewhere between 350,000 and 400,000 iPhones during the holiday season.
The O2 boss may have also dropped a hint about Apple’s plans for iPhone updates. In response to concerns over the iPhone’s reliance on slower 2.5G mobile data networks, Mr. Keys said that his company would offer a faster 3G version in the second half of 2008.
Apple is maintaining its policy of not commenting on future products.
