O2: iPhone No Longer Available

U.K. residents hoping to buy an iPhone from O2 are out of luck now that the cell carrier has officially run out of inventory. O2’s iPhone Web page states that both the 8GB and 16GB models are no longer available and does not say when the combination iPod and smart phone will be in stock again, adding even more fuel to the rumors that new iPhone models are just around the corner.

O2 and Carphone Warehouse ran through their 8GB iPhone inventories before the end of April, and an internal memo from O2 surfaced at the same time claiming the unit had been marked as "end of life." By the beginning of May, CarPhone Warehouse was sold out of 16GB models, too.

The O2 and Carphone Warehouse iPhone inventories may have run dry, but that doesn’t mean hopeful buyers are out of luck. The U.K. online Apple Store still shows a 24 hour ship time for both models. The U.S. Apple Store, however, is showing a five to seven day ship time.

Analysts have been predicting that Apple is preparing to revise its iPhone product line with new models that support faster 3G wireless data networks. That news could come as early as Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference at the beginning of June, and rumors peg a ship date at the end of June.
