O2 to Carry Apple/Motorola iTunes Phone in UK, Report Says
Wednesday, August 31st, 2005 at 3:00 PM - by Brad Gibson
The soon-to-be-announced Apple/Motorola iTunes phone will initially be available the customers in Great Britain from mobile phone operator O2 Limited, the London Times reported Thursday.
The report also confirms a New York Times story from earlier this week that users will be able to buy songs "while on the move", meaning via a wireless phone connection to the iTunes music service.
The Times added that the device is expected on the UK market in time for Christmas. No pricing details were available, but the expectation is that the device will be sold at a premium to other mobiles, the report said.
An O2 spokesman declined to confirm or deny the plans to the newspaper, but stressed “music plays an important part of our overall portfolio.”
Apple is expected to unveil the new technology together with Motorola in the United States in partnership with Cingular Wireless on September 7 in San Francisco. Invitations sent to media organizations declared "1,000 songs in your pocket changed everything. Here we go again."
