Olive Debuts Networkable CD Player With 400GB Hard Drive

High-end audio products maker Olive Media Products Inc. on Wednesday introduced Opus, a CD player with a 400GB hard drive that enables it to hold up to 1,100 CDs in lossless quality. The player also features a Panasonic CD-R/RW drive, Ethernet and 80.211g wireless networking, Apple's Bonjour technology for streaming audio from a computer running iTunes, a pair of USB 2.0 ports for connecting to an iPod or similar device, an analog RCA input port, and three output jacks: one analog, one digital S/P DIF optical Toslink and one digital S/P DIF coaxial cinch.

In addition, Opus offers a two-level jog-shuttle for navigating music on a seven-line 400 x 160 resolution black and white LCD screen, an interface for editing metadata and music playlists and compatibility with several file formats: MP3, MP3 VBR, MP3 streaming, AIFF, PCM, WAV, OGG/Vorbis, FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) and AAC for playback; AIFF, WAV, FLAC, MP3 and MP3 VBR for recording. Opus' built-in database of more than two million songs is updateable over the Internet.

Opus comes in silver or black and is 17.5 inches wide, 3.5 inches high and 12 inches deep. It weighs just over 15 pounds and comes with a remote control, a CD with recovery software and Toslink and high-grade RCA cables. Pricing is US$2,999.
