Online Interactivity Coming to HD DVD Movies

Universal Studios, one of the HD DVD proponents, has plans to expand the interactivity of the Toshiba HD DVD players with new titles in 2007, according to High-Def Digest.

So far, no studios have taken advantage of the Ethernet link on Toshiba HD DVD consumer units. Now, Universal plans to change that by by promoting its "U-Control" feature on two new HD DVD titles: "Children of Men," and " Smokin’ Aces." For example, in the movie Smokin’ Aces, viewers "will integrate Google Earth to identify specific locations of assassins during the film," the report said.

Meanwhile, according to Gizmodo, Toshiba is doing their part to fight back against recent Blu-ray sales and marketing successes by lowering the prices on its three models of HD DVD players. The low end model HD-A2 now sells for US$399.
