Orange Negotiating to Bring iPhone to Poland, Spain
Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
The French cell carrier Orange already has a deal to offer Apples iPhone in France, and now it looks like the company is in talks to expand that coverage into Poland and Spain, too. CFO Gervais Pellissier confirmed that Orange is negotiating with Apple to bring the combination iPod and smart phone to both countries "among others," according to Thompson Financial News.
Mr. Pellissiers confirmation means that Orange has its eye on even more countries in the E.U. and hopes to control a larger part of the iPhone market. The company currently offers the iPhone in France in both locked and unlocked versions.
This week also brought news of Apples plans to bring the iPhone to even more countries. Vodafone announced on Tuesday that it penned a deal to offer the iPhone in ten countries, and the week before Rogers revealed that it will begin offering the iPhone in Canada before the end of the year.
Telecom Italia also managed to land an iPhone deal in Italy, marking the first time Apple has agreed to a dual carrier deal since Vodafone will also offer the iPhone in that country.
Mr. Pellissier did not state which other countries Orange is negotiating for, nor did he say how far along the Spain and Poland have progressed.
