Orange: Still in iPhone Talks
Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007 at 4:00 PM - by Jeff Gamet
iPhone distribution rights in France havent been settled yet. France Telecom and its mobile phone division Orange are still negotiating with Apple for an exclusive deal to carry the combination iPod and smart phone, according to Forbes.
Louis-Pierre Wenes, Orange executive director, stated that his company and others are still in negotiations, so there may not be any deal for at least several weeks. "A launch date of September, as some reports have said, seems to me impossible," he said.
More likely, Apple will stick to its original plan to launch the iPhone in France and other European countries closer to the end of the year.
Apples iPhone has been available in the United States since the June 30, and sold 270,000 units in the first day and a half it was available. The company plans to sell 1 million units by the end of September.
