Petitions Emerge to Both Save and Kill HD DVD
Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008 at 3:00 PM - by John Martellaro
Not surprisingly, with the recent events in the Blu-ray/HD DHD HD disc format war, online petitions have emerged. The Save petition believes HD DVD is good for the consumer, and the Die petition pleads with the remaining HD DVD studios and Toshiba to get on with a single format, Blu-ray, for the sake of consumers.
The Save HD DVD petition points out that many consumers purchased HD DVD players and movies over the holidays, and their loyalty shouldnt be punished. It argues for some of the technical benefits of HD DVD.
The Let HD DVD Die petition argues that the Blu-ray format has won over consumers and asks the remaining studios that support HD DVD to re-commit to Blu-ray and the voice of consumers. It asks Toshiba to "do what is right for consumers."
A list of signatories is available. As of this writing, the count is 7,993 to let HD DVD die and 20,074 in favor of keeping the HD DVD format alive.
